Tuesday, April 2, 2019
“Maybe you’re a community gardener, an aspiring farmer, a school garden educator or someone who’s curious about how soil regeneration can help save the world! If not any of these, you are an eater, and depend on healthy soil to survive. Join longtime urban farmer and Farm School NYC’s Growing Soils teacher for a 2-hour deep dive into the complex and inspiring world of minerals and living organisms at work beneath our feet.
In this workshop, you’ll learn about the basic components of soil, and how soil’s natural processes can be supported by us to grow healthy food, flowers and herbs. Some basic concepts to be covered in this introductory class are: soil’s physical chemical properties, including texture, structure, and pH; how and when to cultivate soil to maintain soil’s health and to produce as much food / herbs / flowers as possible; a compost micro lesson; soil testing 101; risks for toxicity in urban soils and regeneration of soil; and resources for learning more about soil!”
